The Magic of Conflict: Turning a Life of Work into a Work of Art The Magic of Conflict: Turning a Life of Work into a Work of Art
Thomas F. Crum

In 1987, I read…and loved…The Magic of Conflict by Thomas F. Crum. In re-reading it as a possibility for Susan’s Bookshelf, I was overcome with the feeling that it is even more relevant today than it was when it was originally published. Conflict is everywhere in our daily lives and this life-changing book shows us how to handle this conflict in an elegant, powerful and loving way whether it is conflict with our parents, our boss, our children…or even the conflicts that threaten our world today.

Thomas Crum skillfully shows us how to take the tension out of conflict and transform it into a world of learning, discovery and winning for all. He does this with wonderful quotes, examples, suggestions and touching and humorous stories that make the concepts easy and delightful to embrace. Despite the original publication date, there is no question that this is a NOW book.

The Magic of Conflict is about conflict resolution using the principles of Aikido, a beautiful and powerful martial art. Crum tells us that "Aikido, literally translated means 'the way of blending energy.'" And it is the great wisdom in this book that shows us how to dance with it all. I have used his wonderful quote in a number of my books, "Instead of seeing the rug pulled out from under us, we can learn to dance on a shifting carpet." Brilliant! Don't let the mention of the "martial arts" put you off. So much of my work and the work of other self-help and spiritual authors draw many ideas about living joyfully, fully and lovingly from the martial arts. I believe you will be very enriched by the reading of The Magic of Conflict.
