One Small Step Can Change Your Life
Robert Maurer, Ph.D.
It's time for an easy, delightful and very helpful book: One Small Step Can Change Your Life: The Kaizen Way by Robert Maurer, Ph.D. This is a 'calm down' kind of book that is perfect for all of us who tend to get frustrated and frightened when so many tasks lie ahead of us. It was sent to me for an endorsement…and I ended my endorsement with the words, 'You will breathe a sigh of relief as you read it!' I certainly did! And so will you.

'Kaizen' is the Japanese technique of achieving great and lasting success through small, steady steps. Whether the goal is as specific as getting more exercise or as broad as finding a new career, 'kaizen works because it melts away resistance—in particular, the 'fight-or-flight' brain chemistry behind people's underlying fear of change.'
I love this book because it is so counter to the hype in present day thinking that everything has to be 'big' and 'fast' (which also amounts to exhausting and scary!) Here we are presented with 'small' and 'slow' (which is relaxing and non-threatening.) The good news is that 'small' ultimately creates 'big' in a very step-by-step way. As Dr. Maurer says...
'By taking steps so tiny that they seem trivial or even laughable, you’ll sail calmly past obstacles that have defeated you before. Slowly —but painlessly — you’ll cultivate an appetite for continued success and lay down a permanent new rout to change.'
So many of us fail as we try to make radical changes in our lives. But, in fact, we have a greater chance of succeeding as we make very small steps and allow ourselves to adapt, body, mind and spirit. There are wonderful examples of how we can make a diet work, or get all our tasks done, or start an exercise plan, or stop an addictive habit, and so on...all one-step-at-a-time.
This book is a great addition to my bookshelf...and to my life... and I would suggest you make it part of yours.
