'Let me introduce you to this exercise by giving you two questions to ask yourself...and then give you practice in answering them.

What would my Lower Self say about this?
What would my Higher Self say about this?

Let me give you an example of the difference: You've just interviewed for a job you want very badly. Let's listen to what the voice of the Lower Self might be telling you…

'I shouldn't have talked so much about my kids. Maybe they'll think I'm not qualified enough for the job. I really want this job. I bet I won't get it. Then what will I do? I was so nervous. I really didn't do my best. I hope I looked OK. My skirt was a bit short. Oh, why didn't I wear my pants suit? It is much more businesslike. Maybe I'm too old to go back to work. I'm sure they want someone younger' And on and on and on.

Now let's listen to what the voice of the Higher Self might be telling you:

'This job is not my life. I did my best. If I get the job it's wonderful. If I don't get the job, that's wonderful, too. It would mean this job is not for me and there is something else out there waiting for me. I am finding exactly what I need. I trust the Grand Design. I let go and trust that everything is happening for my highest good!'

Now I ask you, which voice would make you feel and behave more powerfully in the face of your fears? Which voice would bring you a sense of confidence and peace? Which voice would you rather listen to?

If you said the voice of the Lower Self, we would have to conclude that you love pain and there would be no need for your going any further in this workbook! But I am 99.5 percent certain you would rather listen to the voice of the Higher Self! So why don't you? As I've already explained...your HABIT is to listen to the Chatterbox, the voice of your Lower Self! And now you are working to break this self-destructive habit...............'
